If I use my credit card to become a full member what will it show as on my credit card statement?

If you have a Visa or Mastercard the entry on your credit card statement will display as "Spice of Life Surfers Para" If you have an American Express credit card the entry will show as Spice of Life Introductiosurferspara

When my membership expires do you automatically recharge my credit card?

Absolutely not, it is entirely up to you as to whether you wish to renew your membership or not

Do I have to pay for membership to receive and reply to emails

No, all members regardless of membership status can receive and reply to "contact" emails they receive

I have paid for membership but when I log in it says I am a non paid member why is this?

If you have 2 or more profiles listed you are most likely logging in with the username and password of the unpaid profile. To check this click here and enter your email address, you will be sent your username and password for your profile(s).

Updating your profile

I'm trying to add my postcode to my profile but it's not letting me

You need to have JavaScript turned on in your computer settings. To turn on JavaScript please click here: http://enable-javascript.com/ Once you have made the changes to your browser, close your browser then re-open it again and you should be able to access all of the features on the website with no difficulty.

Can I change my profile?

Yes you can change and update your profile at any time by clicking on the edit profile button located on the purple menu of every page of the website

When I entered my profile I chose the wrong sex for my sexuality what do I do?

Simply login to the website and click on "update profile" from here you can click on the relevant question and change your sexuality

I've changed my e-mail address what do I do?

Just click on the "Update your profile" button which is located at the top of each page on the website and enter you new e-mail address, once you submit you changes, your profile will be updated immediately in the database.

Can I change my match locations?

Yes, simply log into the website and click on "Your profile", from here click the "edit profile" and then in the middle of the page click the "match criteria" tab, on this page you can update your match locations, once you click save at the bottom of the page your matches will be updated.

Can I update my profile to specify what countries members can view my profile from?

Yes simply log into the website and click on "edit profile", from here choose "settings" and you can remove the countries you are not interested in. Please Note: After you submit your changes you will only be able to view , search and be viewed and searched, from members in your allowed countries list

Your profile Details and Options

What is the best way to write my self description?

The best way to receive more responses is to make your self description exciting, interesting and most importantly truthful. Be open about yourself, let people know what's really important to you, share your thoughts and feelings about life. Profiles with photographs receive 7 TIMES more E-mails than a profile with no picture (let face it you would do the same wouldn't you !) TIP: The more you write the better it will stand out, one liners simply don't work, eg: "I like to have fun and enjoy myself" not exactly exciting is it? Look at your description as if you were browsing and ask yourself if it would catch your eye! Also do not use capital letters as on the internet this is classed as shouting.

How do I know my profile has been entered on the database and how long does it take?

As soon as you've chosen your username and password and clicked the submit button your profile is entered on the website immediately. A Welcome letter from Spice of Life will be sent to the E-mail address you entered in your profile, In this E-mail is your permanent record of your username and password and a link to view your own profile.

How do I view my own profile?

You can view your own profile by clicking on "View own profile" which is located on the purple menu bar from each page of the website.

I don't want to be viewed and contacted from members overseas what can I do?

Simply log into the website and click on "Your profile" which is on the purple menu, then select "edit profile", then in the middle of the page click on the "Settings" tab Your settings is where you select which countries you are interested in After you submit your changes you will only be able to search and be searched from your allowed countries list

How to hide or unhide my profile

How do I hide/unhide my profile?

To hide your profile simply login to the website, click on "Your Profile" button which is located at the top of each page of the website and then click on "HideDelete Profile", from the next page click "Hide Profile" and your profile will be hidden. The next time you enter the website (either login or enter from an email link) you will have to click "unhide your profile" in order to become active again

How long can my profile be hidden?

You can hide your profile for up to 3 months, after this time your details and membership are automatically deleted from the website

How do I delete my profile?

To delete your profile simply login to the website, click on "Your Profile" button which is located at the top of each page of the website and then click on "Hide/Delete Profile", from the next page click "Delete Profile" once you confirm and submit the request to delete your profile will be deleted

Adding and Removing Photos

How do I upload my photo?

Click on "Add Your Photo or Your photos" then click "browse" and once you've found your photo on your computer simply double click it. Now click "Submit photo" Or you can e-mail your photo to photo@spiceoflife.com.au and we'll upload it to your profile ASAP (please include your ID number)

Can I change my photo?

Yes you can change your photo any time by repeating the above steps

I don't have a scanner but want my photo on my profile what do I do?

Easy just post us your photo with your Full Name and ID number on the back of it and we will scan and upload it to your profile FREE OF CHARGE!. Make sure it is a clear photo of yourself, (with your clothes on please) we will display your photo to the size that we require, which means we may have to crop the unwanted background or such like. If you would like your photo returned please include a stamped addressed envelope Send your photo to: Spice of Life P.O. Box 6089 Gold Coast Mail Centre QLD. 9726 If you do not write your details on the back of the photo then we will not be able to do anything with it so don't forget!

How do I delete my photo(s)?

Log into the website, click on "your photos". Beside the photo(s) you wish to delete simply tick the "delete" box, once you are finished scroll to the bottom of the page and click the "delete" button. This will instantly delete your photo(s) from your profile.

How do I change the order of my photos or my main photo?

Login to the site and click on "Your photos" and on the "main image" column select the one you wish. In the order column click the up or down arrows to re-arrange the order of your photos. Once you are finished making either or all of your selections click the "update" button

Can my photo be password protected?

No, photos are not shown to the general public therefore members that view your photo have already entered their username and password to gain access to the website. Photos are also only shown to the sexuality you have chosen, therefore are not visible to every member of the site.

Sending E-mails

How do I contact a member?

To contact a member simply click on "E-mail Me" which is located at the top and bottom of their profile. (Full membership is required to make the first contact with members) If you have received an e-mail from a member simply click on the link which is enclosed in the e-mail you have received or click on "View" from your members area

Where does the message go when I send it?

When you send a message to a member it goes directly to the E-mail address that they nominated when they joined up.

Is my E-mail address shown when I send a message?

No all e-mails are sent anonymously unless you type it in your message.

How long does it take for the person to receive my e-mail?

As soon as you send your message it is delivered to the the other member immediately

I typed out a message to a member and when i clicked send it disappeared and I had to log in again, what happened?

Your session has timed out, if you are on the same page for over an hour with no activity (eg: not clicking into another page) then you will have to log in again. If you happen to be a slow typist then we recommend that you type your reply into a "word" program or similar and then login to the website and copy and paste your message into the message box provided.

A member sent me a "contact" email do I have to pay for membership to send a reply?

No, all members regardless of membership status can reply to "contact" emails that they receive

Receiving E-mails

I received an e-mail saying someone has contacted me from Spice of Life how do I reply?

To reply to a message use the link at the bottom of the E-mail you received where it says "JUST CLICK THE LINK" below to view the persons profile that has contacted you", you will then be taken to their profile and reply to their message in the message box alternatively if they have included their private e-mail address in their message just click on this and reply directly to them. (Please note this will show them your private e-mail address). You can also reply to members by logging into the website and from your members home page click on the messages you have received line

I received an e-mail saying someone is my Match how do I contact them?

Just click the link which says "View / Contact this member" (Only full members can contact their compatible matches personally) Non paid members can only add the member to their favourites to let them know they are interested, or they can become a full member to initiate personal written contact with the member.

What's the difference between "Someone has contacted you from Spice of Life" and a "Match" or "Favourites" e-mail?

When you receive an e-mail with "Someone has contacted you from Spice of Life" in the subject line, a member has personally viewed your profile and sent you the personal message which is written in your e-mail When you receive an e-mail with "Compatible Match", "Looking for You", or Members You're looking for" in the subject line, this is an automatic e-mail which is generated from Spice of Life when a new member joins and fits the criteria you are looking for, the wording in the e-mail is the "Self description" of this person, it is not a personal message they have sent you If the subject line contains "Someone has added you to their favourites" this is simply a sign that the member is interested in you. The wording in the e-mail is the "Self description" of this person, it is not a personal message they have sent you.

When I receive a personal "contact" email from a member do I have to reply?

Common courtesy YES! Always put the shoe on the other foot and think how you would feel if you were just ignored, its not a nice feeling. If you're not interested in the member just a simple "thanks but I don't think we're compatible" is a sufficient reply.

I received an e-mail from a member and have deleted it, can you re-send it to me?

No sorry we do not keep records of messages sent between members you can log into your members/history area and you will see the message which was sent to you.

I met a member and/or received an e-mail and the person is asking me to phone a 1900 number/scouting or advertising their business or website/conveying a survey or research/claiming to work for or with Spice of Life, or asking you for money

A genuine member would never ask you for money and would only ever give you their home or mobile number to contact them. A genuine member would also never contact you in order to perform a survey or advertise their business or website Emails to report to Spice of Life:

  • Members who ask you for money in any way
  • Members asking you to phone a 1900 number
  • Members scouting you for their business
  • Member advertising their business or website to you
  • Members claiming or stating that their business or website is affiliated or endorsed by Spice of Life in any way
  • Members claiming that they are conveying a survey for Spice of Life
  • Members who are performing research or a survey for any other reason
  • Members claiming that they work for Spice of Life
If you experience any of the above scenarios from a member please forward the phone number or e-mail you received requesting money or advertising their business or website to us immediately at admin@spiceoflife.com.au and we will remove and ban the member from our website. We have taken every measure to ensure that all Spice of Life members are genuine but occasionally a "bad apple" will join the system and we apologise for this, however please also ensure that you do use your own gut instinct, initiative and common sense when dealing with people over the internet.

I'm not receiving any E-mails why not?

5 Reasons for this:

  1. Is your E-mail address correct in your profile? If it's not your E-mails are lost! Therefore you can only view your received messages from your messages page
  2. Check your "settings" page which is located at the top of every page and make sure you have ticked the boxes to receive all emails
  3. Check your email provider settings eg: (spam folder or junk mail folder in Hotmail, Yahoo etc) and make sure you allow mail from Spice of Life
  4. Is your self description interesting? If its not change it and make it eyecatching!
  5. Are you sending any E-mails? If not start sending them and introduce yourself!

How do I turn off receiving match e-mails and newsletters?

Login to the site, on the purple menu click on "Edit profile"  from here click the "Settings" tab , in here is where you can choose which e-mails you would like to receive, simply tick or untick your preference and then save your changes at the bottom of the page 

I'm not receiving e-mails is my profile visible/registered?

If you have not hidden your profile then your profile is visible. If you have not deleted your profile then your profile is registered and visible. Also please see question above

I received an e-mail saying someone added me to their favourites, how do I contact them?

Just click the link which says "View / Contact this member" (Only full members can make personal contact) Non paid members can only add the member to their favourites to let them know they are also interested, or they can become a full member to initiate personal written contact with the member.

I'm getting Who Wants You match emails from members who are not in the age bracket I am looking for can I change this?

Yes you can change this from the links at the bottom of every match email you receive or from logging into the site and clicking on "your profile" on the  purple menu, then select “edit profile” and then select “my match criteria" tab on the page ,  simply tick the box beside "Only send me who's looking for me matches who are within this age" and enter the age you are interested in and then save the changes at the bottom of the page.

I'm getting Who Wants You match emails from areas and countries I am not interested in can I change this?

Yes you can change this from the links at the bottom of every match email you receive or from logging into the site and clicking on  "Your profile" which is on the purple menu, then select "edit profile", then in the middle of the page select the "match criteria" tab, then tick the "Only send me matches from location I've entered above" box and save your changes at the bottom of the page. To remove specific countries from your matches click on the settings tab and then tick the countries you are not interested in, once you're finished click the save button at the bottom of the page    

Username and Password Problems

Why does my username and password keep getting rejected?

Your username and password have to be entered correctly, the most common reason is entering a space before you start typing (Think of it as the same as your phone number or bank pin number, if you enter the wrong digit you won't get access), you will find your correct username and password in your Welcome letter or you can have your username and password sent to you immediately by clicking on "Forgot Password" and entering your e-mail address

I've forgotten my username and password!

Your username and password are recorded in the welcome letter you received when you joined, or you can click on "Forgot Password" which is located at the top of each page on the website and your correct username and password will be e-mailed to you instantly

When I enter my e-mail address in the forgot password page it says I don't exist!

This can happen if you have 2 or 3 e-mail addresses and have forgotten which one you entered in your profile, just try all of your e-mail addresses.

Can I change my password?

Yes you can change your password when you are updating your profile

Can I change my Username?

No sorry.

When I enter my username and password I get the message "Session Timeout" what does this mean?

This means you do not have cookies activated on your computer. To activate cookies please go to this website http://www.timeanddate.com/custom/cookiesie.html and follow the instructions

I cannot view a members profile as it is hidden, why?

I can't view a members profile because it is hidden why?

If a member has hidden their profile, blocked you or deleted their profile you will not be able to view their details. If you have removed certain countries from your allowed list in your settings page, and the member is from a country you now do not wish to view or be viewed from, then you will not be able to view the profile. This also applies vice versa, if they have removed your country from viewing them, you will not be able to vew their profile again.

Blocking a member

How do I block a member?

When viewing a profile from your history records simply click "block member" once you've clicked this, the member will be placed into your "blocked members" list.

What does blocking a member do?

When you block a member, the specific member cannot view your profile or contact you.

What happens when I clear my "blocked list" or "unblock a member"?

The members you had blocked will now be able to view your profile and contact you again.

I don't want the member to know I have blocked them, what message do they get when they try and view my profile?

The member trying to view your profile will receive a message stating you have hidden your profile.

Your Settings

What is your settings?

Your settings is where you can choose which e-mails you would like to receive from Spice of Life and you can also decide which way you would like to view profiles when performing a search. Your settings is also where you select which countries you are interested in After you submit your changes you will only be able to search and be searched from your allowed countries list To get to your settings login to the website, click on "Your profile" which is on the purple menu, then select "edit profile", then in the middle of the page click on the "Settings" tab

New Site Layout Problems

Since the upgrade of the new site, the display of the profile is all in one line and hard to read, how do I fix it?

You will have to clear your browsers cache to be able to view the new pages properly. To clear your cache please click on the following link http://www.bnl.gov/itd/webapps/browsercache.asp and follow the instructions for your specific browser. Once you have completed this, close your browser and then re-open and log back into the website and you will be able to view all the updates with no difficulty.
